Graduated, Pasadena High School, 1951, Rice Institute, 1955, and University of Texas Medical School, 1959

Retired, Director of Nuclear Medicine, Oklahoma University Hospital, Oklahoma City


Following medical school, the late Dr. Allen completed his post-graduate training in San Francisco, Chicago, Dallas and Ann Arbor, Michigan, specializing in internal medicine, endocrinology and nuclear medicine. After additional study in nuclear medicine, he pioneered and expanded that field, guiding Congress to recognize nuclear medicine as a medical specialty in the early 1970s. An innovator of radioimmunoassay techniques for a variety of endocrine disorders, he also developed computer applications in nuclear medicine. Throughout his tenure as a medical school professor, Dr. Allen was a mentor to hundreds of aspiring physicians. He has been described as unselfish, a wonderful teacher, a gentleman and a scholar. Dr. Allen passed away in March 2001.


Accepting the award for Bill was his widow Elizabeth Allen.
